College Essay Review
College essays are a challenge for many.
In my experience, many students have not had much one-on-one feedback on their writing in high school.
Peer editing is attempted as a substitute, but it seems ambitious to ask one seventeen-year-old to advise another on the mechanics of good writing and style.
I look to remedy that gap.
My beliefs about college essays:
- Good writers are made, not born.
- There is still a place for humility in the world - even in college essays.
- We are all sensitive. Writing reveals us at our most vulnerable. I recognize the person behind the keyboard and tread diplomatically.
- What we notice about others and the world around us is probably the best reflection of ourselves.
- Writing takes work - like any other craft. The best writers recognize that the path is not easy, but it is rewarding.
Students I have advised have been admitted to the following universities:
- Princeton University
- University of Notre Dame
- University of Michigan
- Georgetown University
- Penn State - Schreyer’s Honors College
- Boston College
- Villanova University
- University of Richmond
